Question
I removed a tick from a person or pet. What should I do with the tick?

Options

  1. Use the eTick app to identify your tick.

Different ticks can transmit different diseases. Using this service can help you assess and manage your risk of vector-borne illness.

  2. Submit your tick for pathogen testing.

Geneticks is a Canadian fee-for-service molecular laboratory that offers tests for a suite of tick-borne pathogens. Clients can choose the package and turnaround time (standard, expedited) that suits their needs.

  3. Donate your tick to research.

The G. Magnotta Lyme Disease Research Lab and collaborators are interested in mapping the biodiversity of Canadian ticks and their microbiota. This will help us better understand and diagnose disease.

  4. Contact your primary healthcare provider or your regional public health department.
You may be eligible to participate in local surveillance initiatives.

If you are experiencing any unusual symptoms after a tick bite, please seek medical care.
